| | empathetic | ] | im not usually a human rights person as compared to an animal rights person. but anyw, i just read XX's latest blogpost about the KONY 2012 campaign. well, to be honest i only read through half (or maybe just a quarter) cause it was kinda boring after a while.
i get the whole point about her not wanting to help speak up for it and would rather just stay ignorant to this issue, and i respect it. i mean, there are many other people out there who think that way, and there are also those who speak ill of this campaign. it's one's decision entirely.
but i just don't agree with this:
"I cannot help the rest of the world with their suffering. No matter how much I help there STILL IS SUFFERING. So I don't. I try not to think about the bears or the orphans or the cancer-stricken children."
sure there ARE many people/animals/trees/plants etc out there who/which are suffering, but it doesn't mean that we should not do anything. i know everyone has probably heard of this before, but if everyone thinks this way, then WHO will actually do something? WHO would try to make a difference? and we will not know what it may turn out to be.
sure sure, it may be a success, and it may be a failure. but how would we know unless we try? call me cliche but isn't failure the mother of success? I'm sure somewhere along their 'journey', Steve Jobs did fail, or Bill Gates too. and every other successful person out there. but it didn't mean that they wouldn't succeed one day.
so im just glad that at least awareness is being spread about this. because as long as we try, who knows? we may succeed. plus, it gives the people out there who are suffering, hope. of course, everyday they would suffer and wish that they were dead so they can stop living their lives in terror and horror. but if there was a way out of that other than death, wouldn't it be better? wouldn't they be happier? and that hope that they carry in their hands now that they know that this other route may be made possible would be what helps them live their lives and make it through another day. isn't that more important?
and as much as (I'm sure all of us too) I would like, it is impossible for all problems to be eradicated. it is impossible. sure, we can help this kid who is dying of cancer, but can we help the next one? or the next? or the one who has aids instead? no it's not. but even though we don't have the cure to cancer right now, who is to say that we wouldn't have it in future? or the cure to aids? if everyone was to give up and not even try, or think that it is impossible to cure EVERY illness/disease in the world, you probably wouldn't even be having that panadol in your medicine cabinet right now.
what I'm saying is, you're definitely entitled to your opinions, actions (or lack thereof in this case), but i just don't think it is right to feel that you do know something wrong is happening out there, but you feel that, 'no wait, there are many other wrong things happening too. so maybe i shouldn't do anything at all.' i mean, it IS true to a certain extent, but, i just don't think it's right.
what i think is, it matters. it does matter if an additional one person is helping. because it just means that there is one more hope. well other than that issue, i guess to me, it's just one more step to humanity. |
